Transcript | To:- Thomas McEldery [McElderry?]. Ballymoney, County Antrim, Ireland?] From:- Lynchburg May 26th 1856 Dear Thomas Robert has opened a store in this place and I think is getting his share of the business in town you will see by the card that I enclose the kind of business that he is in and to come to the point for which I am writing to you for is to see what chance there is of him getting some more money from hoome [home?] he has as much money as he wants at this time but would require more for the winter stock and would suggest that if you could send him about the same am[oun?]t that you have sent as a lone [loan?] for 18 or 24 mo[nth?]s that it would enable him to get along better If you think there is any chance of your being able to get it let me know as soon as you can so that he might know what to go upon I would rather not have any thing to do with this but could not get over it I am sure I could not have don[e?] it if the money was for myself but I am in no want of money I gave him all I had when he went North first and would be glad if he could have don[e?] without any more from home It requires More capital to start in business here than it do[e?]s at home and the profit is also larger There is one reason that I did not want to write this and that was that father has been building and would require all the money that he could raise for that purpose and I told Robert that was the only objection that I had in writing for him but he seam [seems?] to think it will be all right and I hope so Hoping soon to hear from you I remain Your affectonate brother W[illia?]m McElderry |
