Transcript | Boston, January 5th 1825. Dear Uncle, I wrote you on 1st November, a young man David Auld bound to your vicinity and forwarded by him some certificates relating to the decease of your son Robert also a package containing a morocco Pocket Bible, his Brass Stamp formerly used in marking linen in Ireland a Physician's vade mecum, a large breat pin [breastpin?] with hair work, a harp crown etc., marked on it, all of which I hope you will have received before this arrives, and these facts are all that can be obtained here and I should think sufficient for the satisfaction of any Court. I herewith enclose you duplicates of the affidavits etc. hoping you may receive them safely and answer the purpose of relieving Mrs. R. Main and family and it would be extremely gratifying to me to hear of the purpose being accomplished, and of your health and prosperity, as well as yours and family. I informed you in my last of my nephew Robert Means being settled in New York, he is now here on a visit, and is very well and seems pleased with his situation and hopes in time to advance his fortune but the competition is so very great, that a young man has to labour some years before he can do much to advantage. Myself and family are well, Brother Isaac is also in good health we both continue in the same line of business and have great reason to be thankful to the Giver of every good and perfect Gift, for the abundance he has bestowed on us of temporal blessings, and I would hope that we are not unmindful to implore his blessing on a right use of them and above all to grant us the Influences of his Holy Spirit to quicken us in the discharge of every encum bent duty, and grant us grade to seek that good part which shall never be taken away from us. Please give my kind regards to Mrs. Main and family and all my relatives and friends, my wife joins me in love to you and family and believe me to be your sincere friend and nephew. James Means |
