Transcript | Portadown 23 Feby [February?] 1854 Dear Joseph, I have seen your letter to Robert and you report of the sale of 2 Boxes of the Linen but you dont specify whether they are both his or one mine and one his but from your concluding remark I take it they are the latter I certainly am very tired of this consignment and as the money market is daily growing tighter here my present intention is to know if there is any way of clearing out the good and remitting the proceeds without "a heurendous [horendous?] Sacrifice". If you can realize me [my?] invoice price with duty Commission to let him go by all means Do you see any change of their being sold by private sale this season if so sell them but if you dont see any chance of this being done I will let mine go to Auction and be sold for whatever they will bring and I wish this had been done long since. You have now power to sell mine but they must be sold this season as I cannot afford and they cant pay to hold over for another 12 mos [months?] Yours Affectionately William Montgomery Philada [Philadelphia?] U.S.A. |
