I hasten to reply & give you some information respecting the property which that gentleman thinks he has a right to. In the 1st place the lease of all grandfathers land dropped a few years ago and my father now holds the said land direct from the landlord during his pleasure without a renewal of the lease 2 [---?] My father has in his possession at this present time Grandfathers will & testament it being found amongst the late William Browns papers and entrusted to my keeping till I left home in 1847 so that if necessary it can be produced. It does not mention a single word of any such person as Joseph Malcolmson & he may make himself easy on that point & it would be idle for him to waste his money upon a law suit you will please have either this letter or a copy transmitted to him as soon as possible in order that he may be acquainted with the facts Your Affect [affectionate?] cousin W Montgomery |
