Transcript | Cincinnati, May 30th 1848 Dear Joseph Your kind note duly to hand for which I am much obliged as I wrote last I was expecting to hear from you for some time. I am glad to find you have left Mapeys though perhaps he is the discontent one of the party although [----side?] he "done me honor" in the vest & pantaloons, I got from him in Philadelphia your call just tell him so first time you come across him. No doubt Alicia will write me all Uncle Jas kind remarks upon his two dutiful Nephews when I hear them I will report progress What a kind uncle he is and what affectionate relations we are in that City of Brotherly Love. I hope you like your situation and that you are getting up were I you I would not make myself uncaring about parties at home if they choose to sacrifice by selling I would let them hear the birds. What I mean is I would not inconvenience myself [--?] their [--?] as you will just have as much thanks one way as another I write this letter from 50 West Mount St. my office as Bookkeeper in a Pork packers Establishment I am still staying with Chapman and we are the same sincere friends as ever. Tho [Thomas?] Mercer is gone out West where I am not at present aware. I heard Dr Dixon preach in this city on Sunday week. He is quietly failed during the last 10 years of course you are a Church Member. I am not and mostly attend the Episcopalian Churches There is nothing here new only Business is dull Our business is just closing for the season and going I suppose over till the Fall I have hunted up Mrs. Kelly's son and sent her a letter from him. he is living in Alabama and from all I know has been a hard liver Remember me to my affect [affectionate?] Uncle Aunt Cousins Your sincere & affect [affectionate?] cousin W Montgomery CINCINNATI MAY 30 10 Mr J M Searight Messrs Perkins 9th St.[Street?] Philadelphia. |
