Transcript | Portadown 18th Feby 1854 Dear Joseph Your favour of 30th is to hand as Anne Jane and Alisha here dreaming wonderful things about you Some of us were inclined to think that all was not right you were so long writing but to find that my prediction was the right one that all your idle moments were occupied musing and that you had no time to think of distant friends as all your thoughts were engaged at home Well we all heartily congratulate you on all the mercies and providential dealings of your Gracious Heavenly Father and surely a living Mother and a living son are not among the last of those blessings for which we have to thank him I hope the Boy will be spared to you and become a great + good man and be the means of joy and gladness to you and your beloved [Partner?] I have placed the proceeds of yr [your?] order to your credit with thanks We cannot account you further about the sheetings knowing you will do your best but we think it strange that they will not [all?] to advantage as they would cost 2[?] pyd [per yard?] more today than when they were bought and the [amount?] is still good for them here I am sending away 160 ps of them tomorrow at a good figure do all you can to push them off and send me all the money you can and as soon as posible [possible?] think of my position with 1100: yes cloth and œ750 in Havana and the Banks not willing to take a bill of any kind even at 3% at present I am not inclined to sell but for cash and cash buyers are acting very cautiously that money will be acceptable [you?] will want the [Accts?] separate [?] and myself surely it woul be [?] expense to remit alltogether [?] the best you can the loss of [?] would be [too?] serious- we are all well - I shall receive good news from Melbourne My Brothers are [?] [------?] there - the clouds are [Black?] over W.M. and the prospects are [?] my for Matrimony he is under a large engagement to one of the [?] not perform before the end of the year Yrs [Yours?] fthy [faithfully?] Robt [Robert?] Moore |
