Transcript | Portadown April 20th 1848 Dear Joseph I now at length take a moment to write a line or two to you in reply to your last which came to hand in due time I had [-------?] to write by every mail since but some thing ocurred to prevent me till it was too late If this reaches you there is a note enclosed from John MaCowan which will set you right respecting Cairn's Bill and the œ60:15:0 which I have paid him for you I gave it without reference to any thing connected with the Bill or [Ledwiches?] account whatever I did so because I was displeased by Mr M making a Demand which I thought he should not have done and if I had funds at the time I would have paid him out, and I am quite sure you will think it strange when I tell you that he has asked me for the ballance two three times since and has plainly stated that he did not make the arrangement with you that you speak of |
