My dear Allen
I recd [received?] yours in due
course; and the Mrs & myself
join in thanking you sincerely
for your friendly congratulations.
I am sure they
are kindly meant, and I hope
your wishes may be fulfilled.
The œ2 to Mr Spence was not
at all too much, and I shall
repay you, either when we meet,
or when I can call to mind
to get a post office order.
I am quite vexed that I
did not write sooner about
McAdam. I know I intended
it long since, but I suppose
the hurry of marriage put it
out of my head. Gibson (Jack)
& I went to the C.R., the very
day I got your letter, but
he showed us that he had
no power. Mr McAm [McAdam?] must
send a memorial to the Lord
Lieutt[Lieutenant?], similar to what he
sent to Gibson. Jack says,
if this is sent to him, he
will endorse his approval
of its prayer for remitting the
fine, and forward it. With
this recommendn [recommendation?],
I hope there will be no difficulty
in fitting a remission, and
ordering off the Sheriffs Lands
Believe me, in haste
sincerely yrs [yours?]
J Nelson
