Cablegram

My dear [___?] Smyth
I send a copy of the
cablegram with a letter of Explanation to
my friend Mr Kuabershue, the American
Consul at Belfast yesty [yesterday?] evg
[evening?] asking him for a translation & he
has replied very promptly. I got his reply
tonight on my return from [___?] at Lifford.
The cablegram according to Mr Kuabershue, is in
the Western Union code [code] & according to
him, there appears to be Two Errors of spelling
in it, which are probably due to the telegraphic
operator at this side, in transcribing the message
The translation of the cablegram is as follows:-
"Have we authority to sell clau[__?],
"Five Thousand Dollars net cash 2,
"Cable immediately
Purly Smyth
I enclose you Mr Kuabershue's letters on the matter
giving word for word translation which Mrs Smyth
can easily copy & please return me the originals
as I must keep them on my file here, & the Department
is very particular about the fulness of the file.
Now that you have the translation of the message
you will know how to reply promptly to the gentleman
in New Orleans.
Hope you got home safely last night & are very well
Faithfully yrs [yours?]
Philip O Hagan
American Consul L Derry [Londonderry?]
