Dear Brother Robert
I now sit down
with pleasure to answer your kind letter
bearing date the 7 of Febuary [February?] and I hope
you will excuse me for not riting [writing?] sooner
but as I rote [wrote?] to William when I received
your letter I was still waiting for an answer
from him and Joseph but as I have received
none yet I thought best to waite [wait?] no longer
as you would be onasy [uneasy?] to hear if I got the
letter as I sopose [suppose?] you minded that you
put no County on it so that it was a wonder
that received it now I hope that these
few lines will find you all both in Dysatt
and Mulliglas [mullaghglass?] Injoying [Enjoying?]
as good health as the leave us at present thanks
be to god for his mercies to us tho we have been so
unworthy of his mercies now I may tell
you that I did not go to william as just
as I was preparing to go the next nabour
[neighbour?] to where Jane was keeping house
came up and offered me 120 dollars for eight
months so I comenced [commenced?] the 1 of March
as I thought it was the best thing I could do as
that is the highest wages is round hear [here?] and
I thought if I would go [a?] out to William
it would be only a chance if I would
fall into a place this spring so that I thought
we would worke [work?] out this sooner as we were
so near to each other and we boath [both?] thought
it best to have as much mony [money?] as possible
to take out there as we would not wish to
be depending a pon [upon?] them alltogether
[altogether?] and I want if God spears [spares?]
health to go out early this fall so that I will
have time to look how things offers before we
stick our selves into a place now as you do not
mention any thing about the likeness that we
sent we [all?] wish to know did every one get
the one that was [sent?] to them as it was Janes
and the babys that was for margret [margaret?]
mcDowell and if you now [know?] any thing about
them as Margret [Margaret?] has not rote [wrote?]
in two years and Jane feels [bad?] about it as she
would like to hear from the [them?] once in a While
and I would also like to now [know?]
how James Sloan and his Mother is getting along
and I wondered very much that he never
sent me a letter and when you rite [write?] let
me now [know?] as many particulars about home
as possible as I allways [always?] like to hear how
the old nabours [neighbours?] is and I wish to be
remembered to John tole if he is still in the old
place we have had a very early spring
hear [here?] this season the people has [got?]
through with the labour I may say and it is a
very rare thing to have done sowing oats
before the middle of June and the [they?] are
mostly all abroard [abroad?] now and every thing
looks well now I also wish when you rite [write?]
that you would please send my age as would like
to have it that I might know it I may tell
you that I am almost [a-g-?] since the
time the children died and I have tried
a grate [great?] many remidys [remedies?] and
they seem to do me no good you may [tell?] my Mother
that her friends is all well here with the
exceptions of her sister that [is not?] very
smart at presant [present?] I also want to now
[know?] if old Jack is alive yet and what
horses you have now as I think if
he is alive now that he is an old horse
now I must have done as I want to
send it with this post so no more
at presant [present?] but remains your
affectionate Brother Andrew Porter
