Transcript | New York Oct 6th 1877 Dear Cousin Willie I have your favor of the 22nd . Cousin Rowlands [Roland?] a/c should have been to July 1st. I did not notice it at the time and will correct it when the next a/c goes forward. The excutors got out the necessary papers with out any trouble or cost beyond some trifling fus [fuss?]. Yesterday I handed to them the contents of Cousin Rowlands [Rolands?] box and we found every thing correct. The $5000 N.Y. City stock I will sell and rmit [remit?] by next mail as you dis[--?] - I mean Dr Saunders stock I am sorry to say that I find Miss'r [Messrs?] King & Duir firm in their intention of carrying out the letter of the law and holding the property for one year from the date of the proving of the will here. Of course it is extremely annoying as we all know, as you say that Cousin Rowland [Roland?] left no debts nor anyone who has any claim upon him. But as there have been numerous cases where unforseen things have arisen, these gentlemen intend to assume no task or responsibility of the slightest nature. They are pleased with the suggestion of realizing & investing in U.S.Bonds Your property keeps enhancing in value N.Y. Central yesterday selling at 107,1/4. and many other things, much above the June prices The statement of the N.J. Zinc Co on Septr [September?] 1st was a most flattering. They show the following assets. In U.S. Trust Co $225,000 " Bank 10,000 Sales open a/c 71,000 " Notes 10,000 Manufactures on hand 125,000 ------- $441,000 Against this they have the Taylor suit, the damages on which they {the directors} think will be under $100,000. They are earning about $15,000 per month. They have rather too much on hand of manufactures but have been making some sales & will keep this item smaller. I cant find that there is anything wrong with the Memphis & Charleston R.R. [Rail Road?] excepting that they are suffering from poor business. I am delighted to hear you give a good an account of Geraldyn & trust that he will return to us much improved. We are all quite well give my love to your mother, Cousin Jane and all of you & believe me afftly [affectionately?] yours Roland Redmond. Wm [William?] Young Esq. . |
