Transcript | My dear Willie Our trip home was a wonderful one only eight days & two hours to Tandy Hook and a smooth sea almost all the way. I found all the family well, and scattered about as usual at this time of the year in fact three of my sisters I have not yet seen There seems to be a better feeling here regarding the business outlook and cottons are selling in large quantities and at higher rates and this too with a suspension of business in the South West, owing to the yellow fever. The fever is terrible, and it seems as if many of the towns will be decimated as nothing but cold weather can stop it. Our own business is still dull and prices continue low, but I hear today that cables have been received to the effect that white linens are higher with you. Mr Pillob from Madison Florida, called on use [us?] on Tuesday. He says that the plantation is much run down and he does not think that it will rent for more than it now does, and that it would be hard to sell it for cash. He says that the crops are good, that labor is in an excellent condition and altogether their prospects are brighter. I saw Mr Duer today & he tells me that the 4th of November is the day when the executors can hand over the funds in their hands here a month later than I supposed. Do you wish to subscribe to the Commercial & Financial Chronicle for another year? I enclose a/c current of the money of Cousin Rowlands to June 30th. With much love believe me. Yours truly Roland Redmond Wm Young Esq |
