Transcript | Washington July 2nd 1807. Dear Sir, Since my return I had the misfortune to be badly hurt by the stroke of my horse which has detained your son longer than we expected. However, we have at last got the partnership entirely settled up. There appeared a balance in your favour up to the time of the disolution [dissolution?] of the sum of eleven hundred and twenty nine dollars and twenty nine cents which sum I have now paid your son Alexander Colhoun. I have also give him my note for your half of the goods payable at the time mentioned when I saw you at Chambersburgh. The outstanding debts including notes and book accounts amount to twenty one hundred and forty seven pounds, eleven shillings and sixpence, Eighteen hundred & five pounds Eighteen Shillings & Six pence of which we at this time believe to be good, doubtful £134:6:0, bad £207:7:0. The method I am pursuing with respect to the outstanding debts is to give you credit in an account just opened with you for the half of every debt as it comes in and I shall remit you your half by every safe opportunity I may have or by the mail if you think it proper. There is some small debts due from store such as due bills for sugar [?] which I must charge you with the half of of as they are settled. The whole amt [amount?] then not being know at this time but I am certain they are but trifling. I will also have some small charges to make against myself for artiles [articles?] furnished for my own use and paid for out of the store, the bill of which I could not now procure. The business has wound up quite equal to my expectations & I hope equal to yours I shall conclude by acknowledging myself under many obligations to you for your support and confidence at a time when my youth and inexperience would have been objections with most people. I am, Sir, with esteem and respect, etc., Alexander Reed Mr John Colhoun Oct [October?] [1818?] Half of good debts --------------- £ 902 - 19 - 3 Remited [Remitted?] by A R [Alexander Reed?] in setlement [settlement?] 935 - 19 - 4 or $2695 - 91 #PAGE 2 Copy of a letter Those from commencement sent to to disolution [dissolution?] of Histor[?] John Colhoun Ship is $42200.85 cts [cents?] July 2d 1-07 [1807?] |
