Transcript | Harbour Road New London Tuesday July 21st/91 My dear Mother I came here instead of going to Chicago yesterday as I got a letter from Mrs Norrie asking me and I was only too glad to get out of New York to the sea - they are awfully kind people but of course there is not really much to do - I was out for a sail this morning & we caught a few mackrel [mackerel?] This evening we had a progressive [Euka?] party which was rather amusing. Americans certainly have a very funny way of putting things every now & then the way they said something tickled me so I could hardly keep my face. Tomorrow I am going to see a big ship launched & in the afternoon, I'm to play tennis & bathe which will be better than the launching I think. I shall probably leave this on Thursday for Chicago via New York & Albany. The Philadelphia & some other American men of War were in here but left this morning. In the after noon the Atlantic Yacht Squadron, came in about 20 or 30 it was very pretty some were schooners but most were cutters & one or two English built ones at least so they said. It was very hot when I left New York & the journey down was pretty hot too however except in the very middle of the day it is lovely here With very best love Y. [Your?] Affate [Affectionate?] son "Bob" I enclose a note for nan - |
