Transcript | To: [Rosa Rothwell, Ireland?] From: Point St [Saint?] Charles Montreal June 9th 1864 My Dear Mother, Last week slipped by without a letter to you, but it shall not be so this week. Last night I went to a meeting of the Sunday School Teachers held for the purpose of organizing a class: not what you would call a Bible class, but a link, as it were between the church and sp (this word please to correct.) the Sunday school or Scholers [Scholars?] who in the estimation of their parents and themselves are too old for the Sunday School and leave, on that account. This is extended to fill that want so that it will be what they call a Christian union composed of the four advanced classes in the Sunday School, and such of the young members of the congregation who chose [choose?] to join. It is to be governed by the Pastor as perpetual Presid--- [President?] A Vice President ap-ointed [appointed?] an-ually [annually?] by the members of the union, and a committee The meetings are to be held every Sunday morning in the church, and usually meetings at which are to be read essays on different subjects, which are afterwards to be held weekly, if they find that the society is doing well and the members willing to do so. Tuesday night. The post office was read too [to?] which I had not contributed any of my literary abilities but I could not really keep from laughing at the way our cricket club got taken off very clever I can assure by miss Warren. She is very clever and has done some very clever drawings when I first saw them I thought they were engravings If it is not to- [too?] much trouble I wish you would send me one of your own drawing- [drawings?] in water colo-rs [colours?] also one of Frances. You can Direct to the Point St [Saint?] #PAGE 2 Charles Post office, and you need not in Future put on Fitting Shop. You sending them will much oblige me. As I want you to let Miss Warren see what you and Sister can do in that line so be sure and send good ones. I am glad to hear that you are going to Glenarm to spend your holidays and I wish you a merry Time and hope that you will enjoy yourself. Thank Frances for writing to me and tell her that I shall write soon. Also to all the small ones and believe me ever your Attached Son R [Richard?] Rothwell |
