Transcript | NEW ORLEANS, LA [Louisiana?] JUL 24 5 30 PM 1907 [postmark?] Dr.A.W.Smyth Donamana [Dunnamanagh?] County Tyrone Ireland Ardcame 22 [Carondelet?] St. New Orleans July 24th 1907 Dear Dr Smyth I enclose a clipping you may understand I have heard recently that since sending your power of attorney to John Smyth, he has not kept you advised as to the proceedings in regard to your lands. I am in a position to know that there is great activity just now about these lands. Several purchasers are anxious to acquire them, and their value is increasing all the time. The McCanns have been approached as to what they will take for the judgement that they hold against you. Now, Dr. John Smyth being a professional man, may not have the time to devote to this thing, and may not fully realise their value or the people who are acting for John Smyth may not be able to cope with the situation. What adds to my anxiety is the fact that the lawyer, Mr. F. Rivers Richardson, who is employed by Mr. John Smyth, does not enjoy the very best reputation in this community. Under these circumstances it would be advisable for you to revoke your power of attorney and get a hustler of a lawyer, one who stands high here, or entrust this matter to some Bank, or even turn all this over to some smart experienced real estate man who would take your interest to heart. Do not let this slip from you I implore you, Dr. Smyth. I hope you understand that my sole interest in this matter is my desire to see that you & Arthe get a square deal, which, from all I can gather, you certainly are not getting. If I can help you in anything in this matter do not hesitate to call upon me, but you must act promptly, or it will be too late. Write and let me know about this. Sincerely Sep. |
