Transcript | To: Thomas Greer, Dungannon, [Ireland] From: Richard Shackleton, Ballitore, [Ireland] 12/21 Dear Friend, Ballitore 21/12 mo [month?] 1777 1777 [torn] By his letter of 16th inst. [instant?] Samuel Neale informs me that Thomas Corbyn writes him that the Visit to London is planned to take place, 22/2 mo [month?] next, & to end with their [Q?]rly [quartley?] meeting in the 3rd month, the Visitors Isaac [S?]harpless, George Boone, Wm [William?] Rathbone, Henry Wilkins & Robert Walker. Thomas seems however willing there should be more if the way open & desires that those, Sam Neale, Thomas Wily & I should be informed thereof, that we may feel whether Love draws strong enough to unite in this service. Samuel has laid it on me to give thee this intimation he does not say whether he is in spirit that way or not. So look at it with thy best intention. By accounts it looks as if many of our Friends in America were in a very distressed situation. As Jo [Joseph?] Jacob Corresponds with your house,'tis likely he may have informed ofseveral of them having been banished by the Congress to Virginia, Israel, John and James Pemberton among the rest. Divers of the & soldiers among Burgoyne's troops who surrendered by capitulation arrived at Cork the publik [public?] papers inform of particulars. On the whole, the Prospect is gloomy, & no sign of humiliation or repentence among the people which might avert the Divine displeasure. My Wife, Sister & Children join in dear love to thee & thy family with, thy affectionate friend Richd [Richard?] Shackleton |
