Dear Brother
I received you letter some two week
ago but was waiting to get some news to send you, you know

Monday so you know there is a kick in the Luff yet. I met the
Rome Monday of McGilpin Point. I headed straight for her to
bother her all I could but he pulled straight across my bows,
I saw Long & he was asking for you, My Aunt Mrs Martin is not
well pleased with you she doesn't want you to name any girls
to Uncle William but keep them to yourself - but don't say
anything when you rite[write?], Willie is in Omaha and was in St
Louis so I don't know what he is doing, now I am giving you
all the news I can but don't write any of this back nor name
that you know anything about Willie unless they write it
themselves I expect George Bailie will be married before I
get back or he may wait till I get back Im invited you know
the bride is Miss Colsin I was telling Mamie he would loose her
in the bed, that i'll do I am talking about my neighbours,
the Ada Medora got run into in Chicago river by the Steam
barge D.M. Wilson of Buffalo and got her stearn [stern?]
badly damaged but the tug and barge pays all expense but no
demurage the Harlem took the main topmast of out of her first
the Cumberland was on piss pot reef of Cheboygan and was
lightered and released last night, Yankee John is still with
me yet the girl their is n. g. the one in Iowa is the stuff

Oh Nick Sarrah [Sarah?] is gone but I don't know where but her
clothes is still in the house, the girl that was lost turned
out in two, Sarrah was always asking if I know what boat you
were coming on, She was keeping bad hours so I invited her
to go to work some place else there was lots wanting her so I
don't know but she goes with Jack that notorious Jack he was
telling her lies and she found him out. I guess he wants to
sneak away she is waiting for you, I had James picture taken
and then I cut the currels [curls?] of I will send one to
Eliza and James if Mother is coming out I will save her for
her, I am glad she is able to be arround [around?] all right [alright?]
again and David is better, the times is not good yet but we
are like the girl that is ready to marry and has no spark,
waiting patiently, you need not bring the chain or anything
except Winter over coat.
I will close with best respects to all my enquiring
friends, Hugh & Bitchy tom McClifford, and my kind love to
Mother James & wife & family David & Eliza Jennett - Eliza

William will never pay him a cent for he kept him in Ireland
in hardship where he could as been in the land of plenty
