English Translation Biloxi 16 August 1891 My darling daughter, Your post card from the 23rd arrived today. Today would be the third day that you are in New York. You must have received the letter from me in which I gave you Felicity's address, or at least the one I can remember. I hope that the place you are going will be as nice as Niagara. Octavie has arrived from Helen's extremely satisfied with her reception and the degree of comfort there is about that place. She says the dairy is admirably well stocked. She brought me a pound of butter which reminded me of the ones we used to make at mother's house. When I think that with all her money Anthe has so few comforts, this makes one appreciate good management. Mrs. Dunbar's house is closed. She has not made any reply so I think that Arthemise will not have her. There is a bicycle race here today. They pass in front of the house like a bunch of mad people. There have already been one or two who have fallen and hurt themselves. I think they will not leave until they have broken an arm or a leg. David and Mathilda have to return to town tomorrow. Alicia still has a bit of fever. I believe it is nothing, however, I will be quite happy when she is well. Mrs Manord came to post my letter for me yesterday, and sent me a bunch of illustrated journals. She is an outgoing person who is great to have especially in a place where I know so few people. Write to me to say if you have received your money, and if you have news. I will send this by express tonight to know if my box has arrived, I hope that the heat has lessened in New York so that you will not suffer so. Good-bye my darling, kiss Anthe for me, your mother who loves you and sends tender kisses. O. [Olivier?] Bouligny p.s. I am writing to you every day, if you are not getting my letters, it is because they are lost. |
