EGAN, TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MERCHANT, MARINE AGENNT CHICAGO July 27th 1887 Dear Sister I received your letter about mothers death I feel a little sorry that I did not go home & see her but it would doing no good I send you 20 there is ten of it I want you to put a head stone to mothers the other is for yourself I feel sorry for your sons James loss through the [for?] [if?] he needs it you could give it to him to help him put of his loss but I want you to be sure & put up the tombstone to mother I seen your son William yesterday he was in good health I told him he ought to contribute a little towards his broth James's loss & he said he would but he likes a dollar pretty well himself we are doing very well this summer & making lots of money John Shanks is sailing with me he likes it very well & we have got along all right [alright?] Sam Gowan on william is [now?] on a visit he is stopping as sister Bella's we are all in good health give my best respects to James & uncle Nickey [Nicky?] & the same to your sely [yourself?] yours truly brother Wm W.
