j'aurai quitter. Sep [Jess?] les mettra sous enveloppe
a mon adresse.
O. Bouligny Sep [Jess?]
t'envoie ses amities.

English Translation

My darling daughter,

Your two letters from the 20 and 26 arrived to me this
morning. You must have understood from my previous
letters that Alicia is better, I can now say with
joy that she is without fever! She has just received
your and Arthe's present to her and is enchanted,
but she must stay in bed for another week. As the
doctor has said she will lose her hair, Sep [Jess?]
has talked about cutting them, but we will not tell
her until after she has become stronger so that the
shock will not harm her. She has the patience of an
angel. Is it time that she healed, her mother and
Octavie have been on a knife's edge. Don't worry
yourself about me. I think I will leave this week
for town, I want to make the journey while I am
still in good health rather than wait and make it
when I am less well. The two letters brought me
great pleasure. I am glad you had a lovely time
as Arthe said, but it isn't necessary to be a Yankee
to appreciate the beauty of nature and you might be
perhaps less gifted if you had not grown up in the
South with those qualities in your heart. If I were
you I would be proud of what I am and nothing more.
Alicia did not want me to thank you for her.
Instead she has made her mother scratch a little
letter to you which I will include with this one.
Always address your letters to Biloxi until I leave.
I will let you know what day that will be and those
letters which arrive after I leave Sep [Jess ] will
put in an envelope and send on. I congratulate you
on your purchase of a fag' it is a purchase that
will save you in the long run. I kiss you with
all my heart as well as Arthe.
Your devoted mother,
O. [Olivier?] Bouligny
Sep [Jess?] sends you her best.
