Transcript | From: Ballymoney May 11th 1848 Dear Mother I wish to inform you that wee [we?] were put to a little Annoyance on tuesday last the reason of it was that 20 Soldiers came in to town on their march from Derry to belfast, and 4 of them was bilited [billeted?] to us And there we were And not A bed to lay them on wee [we?] saw no other remedy than to sit All night our selves And let them to our beds that wee [we?] were Determined to Doo [Do?] and had the beds As well prepaired [perpared?] as wee [we?] could for them As All who holds An inn Are lyable [liable?] to give A bed or beds to Any man on sutch [such?] a tower [tour?] but I found out A better plan that was to pay for their beds out of the house And the [they?] were verry [very?] civil men and wee [we?] had them only one night, I wish you to try and get Another bed for me And I will pay you for it, if you Could get A small ped [bed?] of feathers any place it would Answer I would like it James might try and find out if the Maggowns [Magowan?] of the road side would sell their bed that the [they?] were talking of selling And if James or any of them would bee [be?] in Darvock [Dervock?] fair the [they?] might ask Chestnut Mcmullan [McMullan?] if he would sell the one that he got from William McCollum And if he would say that he would sell it I would give him a small proffit [profit?] of it if wee [we?] had one other bed wee [we?] might Doo [Do?] for some time I mean untill [until?] I get the Misses and she will have I expect A good number of them I am Shure [Sure?] that she will have 2 at the least one for her self and, I am shure [sure?] that shee [she?] will have one for me As long As she is present her self, I want My Father or James to bee prepaired [be Prepared?] to stay untill [until?] monday I mean after the Middle Market As I have A good many things to [--------?] when I go home if I could but get the time, I am in better heart now than I was before As this is by far the best week that wee [we?] have had As yet and I hope that it will bee [be?] still increassing [increasing?] And if I had A fair start I think that I would get on well, wee [we?] Are All well At present And hopes that you Are all in the same I hope my Dear little Robt [Robert?] J W is well and I expect an answer from him to my letter John Smith. |
