Old Margaret Huston [Houston?] died on Friday night last and was buried on Monday it was not a very large funeral on account of the day being so wet, Joe glenns' Old mother Died on Sunday night and was buried on Tuesday, Dear brother. I am very sorry to have to tell you that Mary Duncan is unwell she is ailing a week past on Monday with a stoppage of the bowels the Newtown [Newtownstewart?] doctor was up with her on Saturday and he said if she would pass the tenth day after he was up there would be a chance of her recovery, so I think they had trouble enough without Alex getting what he got last night [Page 5] x You wanted to know the ages of grandfathers [sic] and grandmothers ) [sic] On mothers side, her mother was 62 and her father was 82 On Fathers side his mother was 76 and his father 91 I suppose you will be for getting your life insured when you want their ages, Father was up in Cookstown on Saturday with the Flax he had seven hundred - weight and he got seven shillings a stone we had 3 hundred over in Uncle James land and we had the rest down in the Blackland all the land we had from Uncle James for cropping. was not too [dear?] after all it only comes too [to?] £16.2s the whole of it and we have eight stacks of corn along with the flax [Page 6] x we have very good weather this last day or two but it is just a day or two good and then as many bad there is hardly anybody done digging the potatoes – yet we have all the ridges up in the gravel hole to dig yet it wont be far off Christmas when we are done this year I forgot to tell you about the Telegraph Alphabet he went [into?] a Telegraph office in Cookstown and he got one but he was afraid that it was not the right kind we will send it to day and if it does not be the right sort you can let us know I will make this do for this time I send my love and best respects to you all Bella M Smyth Top of page 5] Dreaming of [Weading?] Monday 27 Nov |
