Dear Brother
Your letter of May 10th to
hand last week & we are pleased to
learn that you intend to come home
during holidays
It is costly enough for so short
a time but I suppose if you miss the
holidays; you would have to wait another
year
Could you not get some
one [someone?] to mind the school for a month or
so. but then that means money again: So
I suppose nothing can be done without
It But if you can manage it some way we
would be glad to see you home for a
while this year, you could live on little
till you would get rich again. You will
be like what people say about us & the
threshing machine
They say that we never have any corn to thresh
with her & only for Old Margaret money (sic) we
never would got her So all they can say about you
is that you have got no money either to spend here
or there
I suppose Liza & Mary told you of the
threshing & churning machine we have churned four
times & is doing well. We had not much need
for a thresher but when we talked of
getting a churner some advised them to
get the two together & they are cheaper
& when once paid it wont have to be paid
again Mother does nt (sic) grumble about the
money for the churner anyway as she was
tired of that work We left out more money
with law & had nothing for it so it
matter (sic) not what people say.
The new band is getting on fairly well,
Only practise Saturday night now as the
boys are all very busy they are at No
[number?] 15. They will have twenty for
the twelfth
Most of the band is [are?] getting
new caps both old & new
John Gilky took them to the Plum [Plumbridge?]
one evg [evening?].
McKnights Jamie McKelvey & a few others
did'nt (sic) go so there was some noise for
a few days & that evg. [evening?] Our
Wm. [William?] was raging, going for the
first time & the teacher absent They
were very near upsetting the whole affair
John Charlie wanted them to go to Gortin
but I cant [can t?] say whether they will go or
not The young set is anxious to get out.
I believe they are for Newtown Stewart [Newtownstewart?]
this year. Mr Russell told us that they
intend to open the Hall & these men
would likely be invited The Strabane men
is [are?] for Donemana New Railway Station &
they are inviting the city of Derry so
there will be two set (sic) this year
I see by your letter that you were at
Woodslee & saw all the folk there, we
are glad to know that they are all well.
This time last year Belle was thinking
of taking her journey across the ocean
It s a great pity that it takes so much
money to go & come
The Good Templars Excursion this year
is on June 12th to Portrush we are
talking about going but Wm [William?]
says we have spent enough money this
year without going there The fare is
some thing [something?] about 2s but
we might get him to go yet if we force
him well
There is another from Omagh same day to
Warrenpoint fare 2s:2d cheap enough for
anyone to go
We will try & save up
the half pence till that
There was a wedding in Plumbridge on
Tuesday the Bride was Miss Murphy (Public
House) I dont know the groom It was a
big time about the town, Mary went in
to the chapel & saw them married, the
cars was [were?] stolen after night &
the Police had to be looked about Dan
Henry was chief musician & got 10s
lucky for him that they took the notion
I dont think you have missed any weddings
since you went away: people seem to have
given it up around here. If you happen
to come home perhaps they might make a
start But you might be like Belle last
year when Alice & Sam was [were?] married you
might be here & miss them
Alice is still in Eden but there is talk
that she is going over shortly: John
will miss her in Eden I think Mary is up
now but she is not able to do as much
work as Alice Joe is still in Newtown
[Newtownstewart?] but not able to walk unless
with a crutch Its a great pity of him to be
left so helpless
Matthew Smyth comes in here occasionally
now since we got the hill, he is still
talking about marrying & he gets no peace
yet there is all ways [always?] some one
[someone?] making fun of him he has a busy
time now by himself trying to get the work
done
We had lovely weather here this
last three weeks the turf was all
got cut (sic), rickled & some has them
gathered We have ours rickled in the Butterlope,
Wm [William?] Tom Liza & I finished them
on Monday as it looked like a change it
is showery since but not much all the
time
This last month was lovely for cyclists,
they were nearly all out some part of the
day Mr James spends most of his time
driving the Brother was with him for a
month so they had good times
John Charlie is very anxious to get one
he says if we dont get it for him, he will
have money of his own next year he can
ride good now he practised on John Gilkys
& he went to the Plum [Plumbridge?] on Russell's
so he must get one No more at this time So
Good Bye [Goodbye?] A few more will do us if you come
for news yourself But you wont come for a
[penny?]

Your Sister

Bella M
