[Received?] Sept 16 93 [Written beside the address] Try st Thomas Box 7/3 [Back of envelope] [Stamped] [Windsor?] PM SP 14 93 ONT [Stamped] Plumbridge C AU 31 93 [Stamped] St Thomas SP 15 93 ONT [Stamped] South Woodslee SP 11 93 ONT [Written at top] Answered Sept - 19 93 [Page 1] Castledamph August 31st 1893 Dear Brother We received your letter on the 27th alt [ult?] We were sorry to hear of Uncle not being in good health but I hope he is better by this time We have had a busy time here this last while we finished cutting the corn this day week and we have it all in except one stack up in the whins, we would have it in too only today is soft, we have seventeen stacks in, nine at home and eight over at Uncle Jamess we had a good crop this year all unless one field [Page 2] of Bob Ballantines I think when William was cutting it he would been glad that he had not auctioned for it The flax done very well also we have it all up in Windrows they are talking about putting it in a stack some of these days all the crop we had over in the far side of the town is value for nearly £50 and we have it for £20 and the labour so its not bad at all I think there were not much idle time going in this country either for every thing is done a month earlier than every other year [Page 3] Dear Brother when you write again you can let us know if you sent the pincushion it has not arrived here yet and we were waiting for it everyday if you have sent it someone must have kept it I suppose you never got the violin string yet Father was for sending ones but he never done it I may tell you that they like the piece of cloth you sent they say that it ought to make a nice fine suit for Tommy got a new one before the twelfth but Im afraid the cloth is not as fine or as good as yours nor I suppose it was not as dear father says if you would get the same cloth in this country you would pay so high for it [Page 4] We were expecting visitors again sunday but they are not coming Uncle William Hay and two sons was [were?] coming to Gortin too [to?] Uncle Charles and they were to come this length again sunday but the [there?] come [came?] a letter this morning and they will not get he is on the city police in Liverpool and he was to get off on pension on the 21st but the town Clerk made objections and he does not know when he will get off now John Charles or Eliza is for telling you about their stock of rabbits so I think I may close I remain your Sister Bella M Smyth Transcribed by Chris Devenney |
