Dear Brother
We received your
letter on the 27th alt [ult?] We were
sorry to hear of Uncle not being
in good health but I hope he is
better by this time
We have had a busy time
here this last while we
finished cutting the corn this
day week and we have it all
in except one stack up in the
whins, we would have it in
too only today is soft, we have
seventeen stacks in, nine at
home and eight over at Uncle
Jamess we had a good crop
this year all unless one field

[Page 2]
of Bob Ballantines I think
when William was cutting it
he would been glad that he
had not auctioned for it The
flax done very well also we
have it all up in Windrows
they are talking about putting
it in a stack some of these days
all the crop we had over in the
far side of the town is value
for nearly £50 and we have
it for £20 and the labour
so its not bad at all I think
there were not much idle time going
in this country either for every
thing is done a month earlier
than every other year

[Page 3]
Dear Brother when you write
again you can let us know if
you sent the pincushion it
has not arrived here yet and
we were waiting for it everyday
if you have sent it someone
must have kept it I suppose
you never got the violin string
yet Father was for sending ones
but he never done it I may tell
you that they like the piece of
cloth you sent they say that
it ought to make a nice fine
suit for Tommy got a new one
before the twelfth but Im afraid
the cloth is not as fine or as
good as yours nor I suppose it
was not as dear father says if you
would get the same cloth in this
country you would pay so high for it

We were expecting visitors
again sunday but they are
not coming Uncle William Hay
and two sons was [were?] coming
to Gortin too [to?] Uncle Charles
and they were to come this length
again sunday but the [there?] come
[came?] a letter this morning and
they will not get he is on
the city police in Liverpool
and he was to get off on pension
on the 21st but the town
Clerk made objections and
he does not know when he
will get off now John Charles
or Eliza is for telling you
about their stock of rabbits
so I think I may close

I remain your Sister Bella M Smyth
