John A., and Minnie the Campbells. Hamiltons [Page 3] and a lot more: about one hundred in all:: Dan will be able to tell what kind of a night they had I suppose Wm. Gilky [William Gilkison?] told you about Tom getting off safe he had promised that if he would get home safe that he would invite a few and have some fun so on Friday night there was above forty there and we had a very good time Bob McKernan & A J Campbell got dressed and acted for a while and at the finish got married James Huston [Houston?] acting for the Minister:: and he got enough to do to put them together when the [they?] left the room everyone was tired laughing: James kept up the fun pretty good himself singing and telling stories, what he [Page 4] is real at:: They are all well pleased with the long letter you sent but they are afraid to answer because you are such a scholar Liza is not pleased with the Methodists in the way the [they?] acted with the voting: she says only she was afraid she would gave [sic] Uncle a lesson when he was here about being one: and his father and mother good Presby: [Presbyterians?] Between Sarah & James they may answer we told them if you get the news you dont care whether its grammar or not as we dont mind it much:: We had Old Joe Glenn here last night about the appointing of the elders: he is not content because the Duncans [Page 5] has all the power He will oppose the four that appointed and he wants our Wm. [William] and his own son to go in and Joseph McFarland he says they are as good as them they have in He is near mad about them he wanted in himself but an old man wasnt wanted, so now he thinks he will try Willie a greater fool than himself: There is some talk that young Joseph McFarland has bought a farm above Omagh and for selling one of these here but I cant say whether its true or not, there will be a good many for it if he sells and likely like all others it will go high James Campbell had one very near bought at £400 [Page 6] between Donemanagh & Derry but Andy John objected and wouldnt have it:: he intends to leave the glen if he can get a suitable place the people are all getting tired of their [their?] own place and must have a change John Duncan has returned from Scotland and at work again, they appear to do more business this year than before Alex has one of Wilsons sons hired and he looks like a farmer himself now I suppose by this time you have the money all right [alright?] We are sending a paper today We will expect a letter this week let us get it or not I will write no more for fear of it being too heavy its raining pretty heavy two oclock Thursday evg [evening?] B M Smyth [Bella Smyth?] [Written at top of Page 1] You will See by This peaper [newspaper?] the trouble we have in ireland now with the local gorvnment [government?] Bill. The. romans is dowing [doing?] there work well Both in towns and in the contry [country?] .. J.J.S [John James Smyth?] |
