Handwritten Ans 23 April 99 Castledamph April 6th 99 Dear Brother Just a few lines to day, as we took a notion of sending some money But very little this time as Tom has spent it all buying sheep. he was for keeping yours but he got a chance yesterday of half a score and bought them at 11s each. so then you would be wanting before we would have any more but this will keep you going. till [until] we make more. we have 11 young pigs a month old so they will draw about £11 shortly. All we have to spare now. Tom will need it for sheep he likes to buy in as many as possible early in the spring Elkin has him summoned for 8 shillings trespass and to morrow [tomorrow?] is the Bench so that will take some of the profit. This town will loose [lose?] some money tomorrow no wonder that its [it s] poor The stillers will pay £24 so its [it s] sharp enough. Jamie Bob Ballantine will be fined and him in Scotland There is no fun about it this time, it turned out all in earnest to their loss. To day is the voting at the Plum [Plumbridge?] so there will be some uneasiness to the [they?] see who will go in There are three Protestant candidates and one Catholic. John Devine saddler. Sam Dunne Plum Sam Dunne Aughalane John McFarland Terrygrove only two can succeed out of the four. There is some spite among the Protestants because the three has held out. McFarland was asked to withdraw and let the Dunnes have all the votes so as to beat the Saddler McFarland would not do it so then the votes will be divided and the Saddler will have a good chance of going in There is no corn sown around here yet, the weather is not so good now as at Patricks [St. Patrick's?] Day it is wet now and land is not in order for seed Father is kept in the house with the pains yet I think its rheumatism he has, so they wont leave him too quick Liza is in bed with neuralgia for two days Miss Dunne is not much better yet school closed for another week A lot of people complaining this spring No more at present B M [Bella Maggie?] Smyth Written across top: £2 only this time |
