Castledamph Sept 25th 1906 [Page 1] Dear Brother Your letters of Thur [Thursday?] night & Friday morning we rec [received] today Tuesday, had a message from you Sat evg [evening] glad to know you are getting such fine weather on sea We had no rain since [sic] have got the meadow cut & some of it up. Today they are all at the turf. Mother Mary & I are [Page 2] alone I dont know how it is but its seems when any one is here we have as much more work to do now yest [yesterday?] & today we are I might say idle perhaps the good weather helps everything to look better & work seems easier. Everything is going on as when you left. Mr Loney is staying this week & perhaps if the weather keeps good he will stay longer We had Mr Kyle here [Page 3] Sat night with Bob Campbell he has a different way of doing things from Mr Loney I have always held the opinion that people of your own age take better effect than older ones I am sure if you had been talking to him you would [sic] not went away with the same ideas of what religion is He took them [sic] two books of yours with him "Opposites" & Bible Problems I did not think we would [Page 4] get anyone to read them so quick. he looked over them & when he was going he asked if he might have them to read He said he was going to come up last Tue [Tuesday?] with your map & see you about how Ministers get along over there he has some thought of going out there later on. I will get the names of all who took the pledge the number last night was 28 so through you & Loney the drink may [Page 5] be brought down at any rate I hope so. Yest [Yesterday?] Andies women were putting in the hay & our men were working at ours so Willie Thomas Houston [Huston?] called over to them to go and get a gallon of Whiskey & some men & the hay would soon be put up but Bob Warnock told him the tent had put an end to that work he laughed as much as to say its only a sham. But its like what Kyle said John Orr had Willie Barker building his flax [Page 6] & I suppose his talk was everything but plesant [pleasant?] at night he said he told Mr Orrs [Orr?] he would let the flax stay in the Field to Xmas before he would have a man like him to build it. So I think we will let the hay rot before we give the drink. Madge was at meeting Sunday & came to the tent afterwards I gave her a penny to see what she would do with it but when the plate came she put it in Sandy & Wm [William?] lifted the collection I hear a lot saying the [they?] miss you Love from all your sister Liza Transcribed by Greg Floyd |
