[Stamped] GORTIN JU 1 O5 NEWTOWNSTEWART [Stamped] HAMILTON JUN 12 1 AM 1905 CANADA [Page 1] Gortin June 1st 1905 Dear Brother I have just finished a letter to John so as I am on holidays I thought I had better write to all my friends I came over here on Tuesday there was a confirmation of young people in the church so I thought I would see what it was like but I need not tell you I suppose. We had a letter from John Tue Tom came over in the evg [evening?] so he had it with him I see by it. John starts work in Windsor well he has pretty good pay for a start [page 2] he laments about the letter delivery now we are ahead of you in that as we get them left inside the house now. The weather is wet this last while but we had fine warm days before that the turf is pretty near all cut work is still going on. Mr and Mrs Willoughby have gone to live in the Old Rectory left here so Uncle's ones has more room to themselves now [sic] Dr Given has gone to Belfast That’s how they got the house again. The creamery is in full bloom [sic] here I am going [page 3] to get up tomorrow morning and go out to see them churn. the manager is a Mr Guy very tall young man he is furnishing a house going to get married in July I forget where he is from Mr Myles the teacher here, is having a new residence put up both he and Mrs Myles are teaching in Gortin so it will be [convenient?] for them besides going down to Liscable [Liscabble?] Lizzie is getting very tall I am sure you will hardly know her John said you were thinking of coming home I doubt this year won't be any use. Another member of the Lodge has passed away [page 4] Alex McKelvey he died three weeks ago tomorrow he was one that was liked by all 1 o’clock I will finish this Maggie and I was [sic] out for a walk saw the house James Moore Hamilton died in, also the one Lizzie McClelland (his wife) now Mrs Ballantine lives in. Since I wrote to you I was with Dr Thompson twice, last Saturday he said I would be alright through time I am to lift nothing heavy so I have done nothing this last month but I dont feel better yet. Mother is thinking of writing to you when your salary is so large now she thinks you could spare her some They are all well at home Dr Evans and two other men were in town Tue evg [evening?] on a motor car came from Plumbridge in 5 minutes good bye Liza Transcribed by Greg Floyd |
