Transcript | Dear Brother After some time I beleive [believe?] letters will be few as time is so scarce. There being no one to write but me I still put it off Well we had a heavy storm of snow this last two weeks but its disappearing these last few days & work is going on again We rec.[received?] two letters from you some time ago & I hear Chas [Charles?] McCullaugh [McCulloch?] got one a day or two ago John C is home since Sat evg [evening?] I think he will help me to finish this letter as he got some news in Chas [Charles?] last night Tillie is home this last while I think she's for America again Spring (sic) she did'nt like Kilrea very well so they made her come home We had Jack Hay here since Feby 1st his regiment is going out in March. he is in Gortin now We had'nt as good a storm of snow & frost since you & they were here 7 years ago as we had this one the water (sic) was frozen across so you see every 7 years there will be a change. Alice Duncan left Sam last night they quarelled about something but Ill leave this to John as he knows more than I do. Mathew Smyth is in a terrible fix this last while It appears he gave Sam Jordie a rough handling one night so Sam summoned him & fined Mathew in (sic) 10 shillings Well he has gone crazy since as he believes our folks forced Sam to summons but he is watching for sheep hens & everything he got [34?] sheep but perhaps he will settle down as we never spoke to Sam about it for every one took a turn at Sam but Mathew was a little drunk it was the night Bella was married & I think there was fun with Mathew about Plumbridge We sent Mary £2 on Thursday it will help her along I dont know what to say about your last letter I think its a shame for you to act in such a style with Aunt Now you are again [against?] drink & if any one would tempt you with it as you say you do with Aunt (sic) because she dislikes dancing & you like it consider how you would take it No more Liza |
