My dear Mamma
I received your
long letter, I will try and improve
in my writing but you need not
send it to Mr Steel, I will never
find my old purse but you
may not send me the old
empty purse, I have got my new
coat it fits me very well and it
will do all right [alright?], I think that
J. Craig and I will get home
at H. [Hallows?] eve,
W. Craig has been down on Friday
for the first day since he has
been sick, it was scarlet
Fever and some kind of a soar [sore?]
throat; there were three boys
that had the same, The [There?] was a [man?]
who works in the boats drowned here
on Monday the mast of the boat
fell and hit his head and send [sent?]
him overboard; his body has not
been found yet, The weather is
very disagreeable for there is not a day
but it rains, I hope my pigeons
are well has Mary got her one in
the kitchen yet and has it got
any of its feathers yet, I will
expect a letter from Margaret
very soon telling me all the news
and one from Lizzie
I have no more news give my
love to M Davidson, other M and
Lizzy, and remember me to Mary
and Tom, I remain your affectionate
