Transcript | [Incomplete Letter] [No envelope] [Page 1] South Woodside Feb 10 1894 Dear Father I received your letter on Thursday 15 Inst I am glad to know that you are all in very good health but I am a little sorry to [sic] of so much quarrelling in that Country and especially among relations it looks pretty bad I suppose they are pretty good to call names I would try and match them everyway [Page 2] but I would never return a name I would let them know I knowed [knew?] more than them In that way I think this is the most peaceable Country you would never hear of people quarrelling and calling names above all things calling names is the worst Now I would never answer them if the [they?] were calling to me I hope Alex gets learned [taught?] a lesson a [at?] Gortin on the 9th If they send him to goal for a month of [or?] two it will learn [teach?] him a lesson You see thats the way you are paid by keeping out of the way with Williams [sic] Reids case If you people had given evidence at that time he would been in jaol [jail?] long ago. [Page 3] How is it that Williams [sic] Reids case is not finished yet How are you going to do about the fence along the burn side I suppose you will have some law over that too And if you would happen to loose it that would be the worst For all Eden people would put out their fences. Are you and Andies [sic?] Hustons [Houston?] people on good terms now What does the people think of Alex drawing a revolver What did they [the?] police say about it and who brought them up How is [sic] you and Archibald getting along now will he take Alex side. How did he do in Reid’s case I am afraid this revolver case will go on to [Page 4] to [sic] the Quarter sessions and I think I am happy went [when?] I am not their [there?] though I tell you folks what to do Its not likely that I would do it myself. I am in a better Country in every way and I like it as well or better except its not home I will not think as much about been [being?] at home now For I could not have the same times now if it was there then you will give me a long letter and all the news of everything I suppose Joseph Duncan is down in Newton [Newtownstewart?] which of the girls is down with him does John stay there yet what does he do or does he go to school [Pages missing] Transcribed by Chris Devenney |
