Dear People

I received your letter
on April 30th and I am
always pleased to know that
everything is progressing
favourably over there,
I just came to the conclusion,
after I read your letter that
it was rather a busy time
when you wrote, or otherwise
news was scarce, as you
did not send a very large one.
But I suppose that old saying
was true valuable good [sic]
are in small space. We had an
unusual amount of rain here
this spring but the weather
has changed and we are
having very nice hot days at
present, Today is quite warm
- a nice day for walking.

[Page 2]
John has got to be a very severe
critic and I suppose on this account
it will not be out place to give him
a few words in this respect:
He says " I thought to my self when I
heard your letters reading" [sic]
This must be an unusual thing to
hear letters reading, I thought man
was the only animal that made any
attempt at this but according to
your statement lifeless objects have
undertaken the task.
However I will wait for the
remainder of your letter & expect
it will be almost perfect of course
I put no value on your writing
as long as it is readable that is
enough.
I see your celebration will be in
Newtownstewart this year, I hope
you will have a good day
There is no use in me asking you
if you are going as I know

[Page 3]
that Castledamph Lodge is always
ready to have a good walk on the
twelfth.
I will be free to take in the
day for celebrating. if I feel so
inclined, as the examinations
will be over on the 11th July.
However if I do not do fairly
well it is not likely that I
shall be very anxious to go
The programme of examination
was up a few days ago & it is
not as long as I expected I give
you the list below. time & subject
July 2nd (I thought I had the list
here but they are in school) It
statrs [starts?] July 2nd and ends
July 11 I think the first two days
is [sic] the same as I tried last
year I think I can pass this one,
The remaining days are for the
primary exam as it is called, I
may be able get through both of
them but I will not

[Page 4]
have much [to?] spare. There is only
seven weeks now to prepare
I have a fair percentage on the
examination during the term
These are held merely to give both
pupil & teacher an Idea how you
stand. I failed only in one subject
History 20% and in the final
it requires 33% for a pass & 50%
for total. You see if you are not
very good in some subjects & can
just make 33% of them in other subj
[subjects?] make 70% or 80% then
one balances the other. We had a Book
keeping [bookkeeping?] exam on
Friday I got 79% the teacher told
me yesterday the marks will all be up
tomorrow morning I suppose I alway
[sic] put too much school news
in my letters but I don't know much
other news that would suit you. I
had an invitation from that Miss
Ballantine to go to spend the Holidays
at Ansonia Connecticut.
