Transcript | Front of Envelope Mr John Jas Smyth Castledamph Plumbridge Co Tyrone Ireland STAMPED ESSEX MY 10 97 ONT. Back of Envelope STAMPED [NEWTONSTEWART?] PM 1 30 MY [29?] 97 HAMILTON CANADA 20 MY 10 97 (Written in Pencil) Arred [Arrived?] May 21 97 Private Essex Ontario I received your last order for [3?]£, I got the money the other day, $24.38, I often think that it is pretty hard to get money to send to me, I must thank Bella & Liza for their sum & I expect to be able to pay it back sometime, perhaps when they may be more in need than they are now. You say I will have £3 for pocket money, Well since I started to School I am alway (sic) trying to spend as little as possible, though sometimes I spend more than I am willing. I dont intend to spend much of this in pocket money though I should buy myself a hat as I have bought none since the year before I went home, I have altogether now $22.50, I worked a few days at Easter holidays, and so earned 9 or ten shillings (I did not call for [the?] pay yet) I am going to try & make what I have do me these next 7 weeks. I have to pay $7 to try the examinations this year $2 for one & &5 for the other. If I would not be successful in both exams, I was thinking of working from holidays to christmas & earning enough to earn me through next year, I don t like to ask too much from you though I suppose you could give more willingly if I was successful, If I am successful in this exam, I would like to be going on & studying for a second class professional certificate but about £31 you have suit me now, always keep an account of it. Flax is not a very good price, However I am glad to hear of you taking in So much money. I bought some new collars yesterday as the one (sic) I brought from home are too small 16 ½ are no ways [be?] large now, I will try and earn enough to buy myself a new suit again holidays (sic) Yet at the same time I dont want To write very many until after the 11th of July. I am taking a little of Sunday to write this one, Well I will close now, and go out & take a walk, it is just 1`o clock nice warm evening Good Bye To all Jas [James?] A Smyth In regards that daffodils [daffodil?] let me know if it dies the same day as it flowers or How long it remains in bloom & when the first appears as & when the last disappears describe its mode of growth in general P.S. I think I owe Wm [William?] Gilkison a letter, if so let him know I will write shortly, and if he owes me one tell him I would like to get it pretty soon, I hardly average a letter every two weeks between the whole lot of correspondents James Houston owes me one but I suppose I will have to wait until he get (sic) the crops in as he is very liable to be busy, Any other one who wants to write to me let them come along, I will be glad to answer them Transcribed by Gary Campbell |
