Transcript | Envelope addressed to: - Miss Eliza C. Smyth, Castledamph, Plumbridge, Co. Tyrone, Ireland. Postmarked on Front of Envelope: - INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID - T10 Postmarked on Back of Envelope: - [NEWTOWNSTEWART?] AU [August?] 20 [04?] Essex Ont, [Ontario?] August 10, 04, Essex, Ont, [Ontario?] August 10. 04 Dear sister, I have just agreed for Mary's passage on the Steamship "Tunisian" She sails from Montreal on the 26 Aug, I am enclosing you a schedule of the proposed sailings, I shall let you know what day and hour The "Tunisian" is due at Moville, At any rate I am sure she will be home Saturday these vessels all arrive at Moville on Friday. They are 1st class in every particular, you will notice in the schedule, that this same vessel left Montreal on the 29th July, Now see in your Londonderry "Standard" when she arrived, I shall let you know any way There are two or three others going From here, They are going 3rd class, However Mary will likely make friends with them, It has been her characteristic since she has been here, It seems strange to me that she has not insisted on going 3rd class, it would be quite in keeping with Uncles and the others style of living. She has done every thing 3rd class, in every way since she came, and it has pleased my Uncles friends [remarkable?] well, In fact it annoys them by my getting along so well, [No?] wonder Uncle & family are the way they are, No wonder they married like the [they?] did, and they have an apt pupil in the person of Mary, also Sara, But Willie John, Myself and Tillie would take none of their teachings nor with [Gods?] help never will, Had I done so I would have been earning $100 per year to-day, I must drop this subject because I get so mad when I think how Mary improvement (sic) has [an?] [widened?] J [James?] A Smyth Transcribed by Jim Buchanan |
