Transcript | [No Envelope] South Woodslee Nov, 5, 1903 Dear [Folks?] This is Thursday morning. Just ten o, clock. I am writing this note in the post office, Aunt pulled through last night but still looses in strength. I am just after riding down with the Doctor who was up seeing her and he tells me that by tomorrow morning will be about the end or about 24 hours more. Now uncle signed that paper this morning and I am posting it to you so you can forward it to him as he directed me to write you in last night s letter A few remarks on the affair aunt and I could never agree on our right to have old Margaret in place of Archibald. We had [many?] short words on this point as I am not like [Mary?] I take my own part and what I think is to my advantage, So now old Margarets money is comming [coming?] and [Page 2] she does not know anything about it Another point I wish to mention, although these are strictly between us and that is this, aunt and for that matter the whole family have been so terribly temperate all these years, They are all beyond reason, now that they had to bathe her in whiskey and Dr Sampson ordered them to give her as nourishment "Champagne the dearest kind of alcoholic beaverages [beverages?], The Champagne came in this morning and Dr [Milne?] and [I] fixed the siphon before we left. Of course Aunt won`t know what it is as I don t know the taste of it but it illustrate [sic] the point that every thing in this world is of some use and that use should not be abused, I was Just thinking of these two points this morning and more than I was likely [thinking?] [of them?] The weather here has just been like June up to yesterday but now its a little colder, Yours Jasmyth [James Alexander Smyth?] Transcribed by Gary Campbell |
