Transcript | [Incomplete Letter] [Page 1] South Woodslee, August 6th 92 Dear Parents Brothers & Sisters I received your last letter on the 22 July and I am glad to hear that your are [sic] all well and that you had such a good Twelfth and that they had good Order I would liked to have been there this year you had such good times with Elections and everything I see in the Standard that they [the?] two local Band [sic] turned out when Lord T Hamilton was returned I suppose you had [Page 2] another good night I see that you have got a new Drummer I suppose there is no fighting about drums now when I am away I guess you have a very peacable band now They would be the better of me to have an argument every Twelfth I had not an extra good day on the Twelfth here went to Essex There is a good deal of Orangemen here but they dont go out on the Twelfth The most of them went to Lodge on the morning and when it was over they went home to there [their?] work There was [sic] 7 or 8 Lodges at Essex and only 200 orangemen in the walk I count [sic] them passing me [Page 3] There was a large crowed of Other people and a good deal of good speeches and spoke a lot against Home Rule I did not think it as good a day as would be at Home There was none out of this house went But me There was a Union Pic Nic of Methodist and Baptist at [Belle?] river on Lake st Clair on the 3rd inst We were all at it but Uncle and Aunt I drove the team and took them down we had a grand day Boat riding and everything if they would have Sunday School pic nic at Home like this I think it would be very good I may say we have all our Harvesting done here we finished the oats last night [Page 4] and we have all in the Barn except them we did not cut no wheat this until the 18th of July we started to cut hay about the 8th July Harvesting dont take long here We had one of our working horses died about the first July and we had to work one of the colts since it was hard on it drawing the machines but it had to do it It is well enough Broke now I never have any trouble with it and work it every day Threshing is just started here I will be at the first to morrow all will we have all our manure to put out before we thresh and we have quite a lot of it to do....
