Dear Parents
I received your letter on
Friday 2nd and I am sorry to hear of Aunt
Liza (sic) death and I suppose they are sorry
there But one thing I may say that I am glad I
went to see all my friends before I left for I
will never see some of them again Annie and Tillie
and Baby came home Friday It is a fine
looking boy They call it William Glen William
is for its two Grandfathers and I dont know what
Glen is for If Annie knowed [knew?] anything about
Joe Glen I dont think she would give it that name
Tillie is going into a Shop to learn Millinery
trade when she goes back to St Thomas
Willie John and Sarah will be going back to
College next Monday College Opens to-morrow [tomorrow?]
but they are not going for another week
Willie Sarah Casse [Cassie?] and Bell were up in
Windsor and Detroit two days last week
sightseeing and such like We have nice
working weather here now it is not very hot
we have all the crops in the Barn long ago
I suppose by the time this letter reaches you
you will be starting to cut your oats
I will not have as much to plow [plough?] as I said
I would Uncle let 10 Acres out on share for wheat (that is)
they [the?] men that has it plow [plough?] it and does all
with it and when it is threshed he gets one third
of the grain I think he will let more out for oats in the
Spring Uncle is talking about selling the farm
when he gets a buyer he wants 9000 dollars
for it We are putting in 10 Acres of wheat this year
Ourselves we will have it all in this week I
harrowed five of it yesterday Uncle was at a
threshing both of us will be at it to morrow [tomorrow?]
Some of our neighbour [neighbours?] is not able to plow
[plough?] any their ground is so hard. Ours was harder last
year than this one I see by your letter that
everything is very cheap over there now it is a
bad time for making money now But people
never would make much money in this Country
if they were depending on cattle We sold 2 [dry?] cows
13 year old heifer and 3 Bullocks for 120 dollars the
[they?] never get much higher than that hear [here?] grain
is very cheap hear [here?] wheat is only 67 cents per bushel
Well now about College I have not decided
yet what to do But if I go I will not go
sooner than the beginning of the year I will put
in me [my?] time with Uncle thats this month and the next
I have only spent 4 or five dollars of my wages again
Nov I will have about 120 dollars But dont
bother yourselves about money by no means if
I do need it it wont be for a year or fifteen months
anyway; you have to pay your School fare on intering [entering?]
it is one board that count 2 1/2 dollars per week But if six
month (sic) does me I would need none. I never mentioned
it to Uncle or Aunt nor wont to I have my time up
and then I will see whether he will ask me to stay on
or not

In regards welcome if I would go I would not care
whether the [there?] would be any or not But if they would have
as much for me at College as they have for Willie and Sarah
I would have enough more than I would want
I know what you mean by fare [fair?] I never heard no talk
about that there is many a one got fooled in that way
and for me to work any place for yearly wages I dont think
I would do it Uncle might do better eather [either?] of the
ways than either me or you expects He might pay my
way through College he might do as well that way as
any other I heard him say he would not allow any body [anybody?]
farm nor he would not do it himself if he was young now
but I will tell you all again Nov

This is quite a long letter
