Transcript | James Alex Smyth South Woodslee No Envelope Dear Brother I received your letter last week and glad to hear that you are all well. We are all well here we have very good weather here now for this time of the year I dont think it is as cold here now as it would be at home we are husking corn now we are about half done it is not a very nice work it is done all with the hands three or four days work would wear the skin off. Father wanted to know if the acres was the same size the [they?] are the same English Measure He has one hundred and 50 Acres in his farm we have about twenty acres to plough yet we will plough as much as we can after we get done with the corn what is left will not be done to spring we have 25 ploughed I did not plough much when the other boy was here but he is away now so I will have all the horse work from this on Uncle and me when we be talking about home I be strokeing [stroking?] out lines and showing him the way our farm is now The [there?] must have some great floods there this year we threshed our oats last week we had 517 bushel threshed them all in 13 hours the people in this country call your flail a poverty club they ask me is that what we thresh with I was at a party last night Halloween night we had a fine time playing a good many tricks they play at Home I suppose they were not much fun there this year either Sarah A Duncan is going to Collage [college?] this week I think she is going to take up Tyre [type?]writing and Short Hand writing An Education here is better than Farming it is easier anyway I wish I had went to School the last two years these letters of mine is like William they are not very well done he is not a very good writer and words used where they should not mind that in the future No more at present James Alex Smyth I mostly answer two letters I suppose you think I am hardly writing enough I will be expecting a letter this week to hear how all the law went I hope you will win |
