be in Canada and
back again before it
will be finished He will
do as long as he has
a J. P. to his back
you must have had
rough times there
through the summer
I see by Bella [sic] letter
that there is a potato
digger in that part
of the Country that's
always an improvement
that is one machine
we have no call for
here all the potatoes
we had I would dig
them all in two days
Three or four is as many
as you would get at a

[page 2]
meal and if any of
them take more that [sic]
They will say you must
be an Irishman and
drinking Buttermilk is
the same its no wonder
they have a better tongue
when they go back to
Ireland again they
have to stop their Irish
words when they come
here or else make fun
of every word you say
We have had very good
weather on to about
Tuesday and then
we had a little snow
and two days hard
frost that was the
first this season

[page 3]
It rained yesterday and
to-day I think hot
weather is as good as
cold weather but the
hot weather is over now
for six months I thought
the last two day [sic] cold
but they say that was
nothing to what it will
be We finished husking
on Friday that is the
last of the crops this
year I have engaged
with Uncle for one year
for $120 or £25 commencing
from first November I
don’t know whether I
done [have done?] right or wrong
it is not very big pay
and a good deal of work

[page 4]
to do to this time next
year let me know what
you think about it
He said he was not going
to use me as any other
body He said for the
last six months he would
buy me some clothes
it takes a lot of money
to buy clothes here I am
getting an Over coat at
20 dollars I don't think
Mary need send the seed
I think it would not
grow you need not send
it to I tell you anyway
Sarah Ann is going to Chatham
Collage [college?] this week I
think I have no more at present
