Transcript | [Front of envelope] Mr. James =A= Smyth Southwoodslee Lock Box 4 Essex County Ontario Canada [Stamped] NEWTOWNSTEWART DE 1 92 IRELAND [Postage stamp] Postage Revenue 361 2 [Written at top] Ans Dec 12 1892 [Written at bottom in pencil] 1892 [Stamped] [PLUMBRIDGE?] DE 1 92 [Stamped] SOUTHWOODSLEE DE 12 92 ONT [Page 1] December 1st=92 Dear James Once more I [now?] take the pleasure of writing to you all to let you know that we are all in good helth [health?] at present - I may let you know that Mary Duncan is quite well now – Aleck [Alec?] is pretty well also after the fight - That day that Bella wrote the Doctor and officer and archibald J-P and the Petty Session Clark and a number of the police. all was on the Seen [scene?] Aleck [Alec?] had to be removed to James Ried [Reid?] as William Ried’s [Reid’s?] leg was Broken - the Depositions of Both taken down and a number of Witness sworn all was admitted [admitted?] to bail to the Bench day the 9th of December [page 2] homerule [Home Rule?] was the cause of it all. Ried [Reid?] shouted for homerule [Home Rule?] comming [coming?] up the Sandyhill.So he [would?] been [sic] Better to not shouted I will write after the Bench Dear James we had a big night on friday last we had to give 8 the purple and we had up David Battie and wife and two sons, Sam and William Jam [torn] they stayed to next evening the names – are} [Aene?] Duncan our William - Thomas [McFarland?] [torn] William [Nox?] - Thomas Huston [Houston?] John McKnight - John Orr and George Young - -- So we had a grand night almost to cle [torn] So Orangemen is Dowing [doing?] well. - and I [never?] need [torn] think to shout homerule [Home Rule?] among such men [page 3] they [the] two young Batties is [sic] [for?] comming [coming?] up again some time in winter for a while & pay Alexander ones I think I will not write for some time as they got some blame too,. as far as your Uncle John I think you need not expect any from him, [Nor?] I would not advise you to write to him for he had time enough to have wrote [sic] to you long before any Discord begin [sic] - and he may think [thank?] himself [for?] it all - as for the [Straughroy?] people I was, not speaking to any of- them this long time when I was up I heard them say they would have to write to you - so I suppose they have forgot [forgotten?] since [page 4] Dear James you will think we were slow this year we. are only finishing our potatoes this Day the weath [torn] was very unfavourable for diging [digging?] we have a very good crop you will see by bellas' [Bella’s?] letter that I was in Cookstown [and?] flax Drew almost $20 I dought [doubt?] the alphabet is not the wright [right?] kind as I went into Strabane and they would not [give?] it at all said the [they?] [could?] not give it - let your Uncle and Aunt. know that I had a letter from Annie the same day I got your last one - I will write to hir [her?] nixt [next?] week Write soon - give our love. and best respects to your Uncle and Aunt and to all - So no more at present from you [your?] loving father John J Smyth. |
