To J -A –S [James Alexander Smyth?]

My Dear James once

you a few lines to let you know
we are all in good [helth?] [health] at
present I myself is [sic] not to [too?]
well. I think I told you in the last that
I took a pain in my right ear The pain has
left it But the noise still continues and
I cannot hear very well - But I am
still Dowing [doing?] something - your
mother is in good helth [health?] now she
goes on with the work as usual they have got
through with the diging [digging?] of the

diging [digging?] we have a little change now
But not much rain as yet the ground was very
Dray [dry?] and potatoes was [sic] easy to
dig-

We have some trouble now with the
Orange Buisness [business?]- We expeted
[expected?]Daniel Henry on October 29 –
The [there?] were [sic] a District
Meeting called for the same night in our
house So none of the plum [Plumbridge?]
men come [sic] up James Gordon went Down
to them and after our privet [private?]
lodge was over we opened the District We
had no District Master This last year Willie
Barker was D D M [Deputy District Master?]
so we had just enough Members to open 5
[forms?] a [corom?]] we elected all and
sent for a District [form?] The plumb
[Plumbridge?] man done [sic]
the same - Daniel appealed against
Decision of our lodge - he also
Brought a charge agains [against?] me
for stoping [stopping?] him on the land
he Brought a charge against James Campbell
for going to the opening of the new chapel
PmBidge [Plumbridge?] and for paying one pound

[Page 3]
Also one against William Barker
for paying offerings at Michl Badly
[Michael Bradley’s?] Son [sic] funeral all
to the county S lodge I had a charge against
John McFarland for not giving us the anual
[annual?] William Barker had a charge against
Willim McCleay [McClay?] for refusing to Call
the District [lodge?] to where he appointed it
so we all [went?] to the County Meeting on the
9-[9th?] past to Omagh and as the [there?]
were [sic] that much to do nothing was heard
and a Deputation was call [called?] and
ordered to go to the Plumbridge and have
all trayed [tried?] at some convent [convenient?]
time So we will have a day at the P Brdge
[Plumbridge?] Some time shortly the countery
[country?] nearly knows it all as
Daniel kept nothing hid [hidden?] - I did
hear the half of what was going on
in the hall and I was as content
that nothing was done as I hope I
will [sic] better before they come to the
plumbridge as I would lik [like?] to
be able to talk to them

[Page 4]
in our last, I sent you 5 pounds
wich [which?] I hope you have got all
wright [alright?] I have been told to let
you know that Nixt [next?] week we will
send you the price of a Suit for we think

time Tom has all the Sheep Down Now

come our lenth [length?] as yet - I only
wish we were out of it the [there?] are
some changes now But as John is going to
fill up a sheet he will give you all about
everything as Bella and the others is [sic]
