Letter 1 Castledamph April 14th 99 My Dear James Just when I am not doing much I thought I would give you a few more lines - we received your letter to Day [today?] we are happy to Know that you still enjoy good helth [health?] for when it is gon [gone?] all is gon [gone?] - The weather now is very wet and work is nearly at a standstill we got the field at the Bridge sowed on Monday last to Dinner time none sowed no place till that morning - what time the people will get it in its hard to say this afternoon is improving our boys is trying to harrow for potatoes we will have them in the Black land and [Shaws?] field we will be able to Drill from the Midday Down to the road straight - So that is a change But the ground is very wet and no appearance of Dry weather as yet - but we have two good horses and very quiet in all harness - not any trouble with them they are in good order well I may tell you that I have not been out since I took those pains till Monday tom had to commence to Sow and I went Down to see him how he would do. Your Uncle William come [came?] out and they got on two sheets and they Both sown the field and we had it finished when the rain Come [came?] on I have Been Down around it to Day [today?] just before writting [writing?] But I had to sit Down often till I got up again its 6 weeks tomorrow and I have never took off my pants and two pair of Drawers day or night - linen and two shirts one of them flanal [flannel?] and lost plenty of sleep - I do not go to Bed now from I get up till we all go what time I will be abel [able?] to do any work I dont know but when I am able to be up and walk some little I think I am all right and so I am if the weather was got warm I think I would be all right [alright?] - William Ballantine - Each of these was fined in 6 pounds James Ballantine a smart lesson Bob Warnock James McNamee [K?] James McNamee has escaped as yet no word about him - our Tom went in my place - about the sheep - Elkin fined him in 4s and 2d of cost - But its a long lane But the [there?] will be a turn in [Demal?] [Henery?] is one in [fads?] house, the Elkins ones and the [Mc?] [K?] [Dawes?] is split the one would not Swear lies for each other now that the finish of ontrufleness [untruthfulness?] The number of sheep now is 63 and one died would be 64 - we have 6 lambs now and about 8 more to lamb - then intend to buy some more yet thank god all the money we have sent you and all we have lost at law we have none to Barrow [borrow?] as yet nor I think will not though it takes a good lot to do us - at present But we will have to keep from law if we can for the future - I have often said I would write to Woodslee people But I never got at yet let them know that we are all well and again Summer the [they?] all intend if well to get there [their?] picture taken and Send it to them - By the time I am writting [writing?] you aught [ought?] to have a letter with 2 pounds its Small this time but it will do till you get more - Keep yourself in good order that is for cloathing [clothing?] anything you Stand in need of you will have to get it So you need not be afraid we will tray [try?] and Do our part as well as we can - William and Tom never complains of either hard work or sending you plenty of money as for that life policy I would have nothing to do with it - as 25 years is a long time and perhaps be like W J Duncan here get it Elis [Eliza?] is going to finish this letter.
