Castledamph July 12th and 13th

My Dear James-
I am shure [sure?] you will
think it strange to here [hear?] that
we have not a meeting this twelth [twelfth?]
they [the?] Drums never come off the
pins nor the flag of [off?] the pole.
everything just remained where the [they?]
were when you left - the Plum [Plumbridge?]
went to N Stewart [Newtownstewart?] and some
of our meen [men?] - your mother did not care
for them comming [coming?] when you were not
amongst them – So they will think more of it
next twelth [twelfth?] William went up to
Straughroy on Saturday 11th and will not be
Down to tuesday 14th So its now 11 oclock when
I am writing the day is fine and the Plum
[Plumbridge?] Meen [men?] of [off?] – and we are
lonely enough at home - So I hope yous [you?]
in that country will have a good Day in every
way - you will see more there than at home
But one advice I give you go no place
without your Uncle and Aunt's advice
as people will be all Strangers to you
So ask their advice on all matters
and attend to it -

[Page 2]
Now I will give you something regarding Glen
Sass [Glensass?]– John McConnell was Dismissed
at Strabane with 10s 9d of costs to they [the?]
deffentents [defendants?] he then appailed
[appealed?] to the assises [assizes?] in Omagh
- the [they?] were in Omagh July 7 - James Hay
B McKelvey J [McKery?] John Niclos [Nicholas?]
John McFarland Archibald Duncan and myself were
all up - against McConnell after hearing all
the judge dismessed [dismissed?] McConnell
on the Merits - Now he has no claim either him
or McNamee above the old Ditches or fences – Still
he persisted and would Keep the cattle on it -
Friday the 10th we all went up and putt [put?]
of [off?] the cows But with some difficulty
Next day Saturday 11th we had to go up again
a worse encounter still ensued as we put them off
they put them on the most Difficult thing to put
of [off?] was a ewe and lams [lambs?] wich [which?]
they kept teathered [tethered?] they held and our
ones pulled to [until?] thy [they?] gave way so
we cleared the ground old Mary and Eliza struck
Bob McKelvey with sticks so this morning
the 12 of July the [they?] have not attempted
to put Them on again - But it has cost the
parteners [partners?] now about 69£
We intend to wire it all round as
soon as we can

[Page 3]
