Transcript | [Front of Envelope] Mr Jas A Smyth Essex Ont. [Ontario?] [Stamped] ST THOMAS 20 MY 20 04 0NT. [Back of envelope] [Stamped] ESSEX MY 21 04 ONT. [Pages 1 ] St Thomas, Box 1103 May 20th, 04 Dear Brother;- I was [went?] in to the store yesterday to see the trunks and I could get a good strong one 36 inches bound with Iron for $6. It was flat [sic] top with two trays I think it is as good a one as you could get any other where [sic]. I can't go up until I get one so you can decide about it. I think $15 next month would do me for trunk & all. I have not heard from home lately. I suppose when you don't write [Page 2] you can't expect to get any. Mrs Marker of Annopolis [Annapolis?] has been visiting here for the last few days she is down at her sister's Mrs [Dawson?] Port Stanley. We are going down there for the 24th I think. I suppose they will have a great day in Windsor on the 24th I suppose you will be there. Well, I don't know for sure when the concert will be but sometime in the middle of June. I hope they will have it soon. We had practice Saturday night but it was all seconds some of them not any bigger than Lesley. I am the only one playing in it that has only taken this year, and then [Page 3] she has me and another girl lead the rest of the seconds. I think it is going to be very good some of the music is hard, for me anyway, but I am trying to manage it. They have been away this week so that we didn't have any practice Wednesday night nor I didn't have a lesson Thursday There is a girl plays the viola, it is someth [something?] like the violin. Say, I wish you could see Dr Lumley, I would like to see him among the Drs [doctors?] at home. He is about 6 ft & a half high and seems somewhat awkward. but he is very nice otherwise he is a great friend of Mr. Beugoughs. He plays first violin but attends every night of practice even if it is only seconds there he wants the practice so having nothing else to do he goes there. and [Page 4] and [sic] helps Miss Resdon to tune up the kids violins. He is a Dentist so he has the evenings to Spare. I think I forgot to tell you that Mary Duncan hired Jamey [Clere's?] car one day and took Minnie & Martha Duncan & Liza up to Uncles Alex's Strathroy to see Bella. Bella is still very low. I think Mary Duncan must be getting generous in her old days. I must close now so Goodbye, M [Mary?] Smyth Transcribed by Greg Floyd |
