[Received?] Liza’s letter last night I see your are all doing well anyway I am writing this in school as you may see by the top tomorrow is our last day till after Easter. We are getting a week [sic] holidays. And Good Friday. We are all well here Jim has not been down this last fortnight I think he is coming down Friday. I suppose Tilda told you about him getting the Principallship [Principalship?] of the school. He was only down once since. He [Page 2] was in good humour about it but he was not sure whether he could hold it or not as his certificate will be out this year. So he has to do something. He has got $300 to start with and $600 after holidays. He is not changed yet as the Principal will not leave till tomorrow. I think he should save money now if ever he will. He is going to get me a bycicle [bicycle?] I think. He said when ever I got the money from home that you had no call to send it to me that he could give me all I wanted so he soon changes. I have to get my blue dress trimmed over again to fasten [strengthen?] the color behind. I am not going to get a new one this year I don’t think Friday afternoon I started this letter on Wednesday but [Page 3] did not get much written This day is raining can’t get out at all we had lovely weather up to now Yesterday When I was coming from School I had to take off my coat it was so warm. This rain makes the grass look green. Belle and Cass was up to Essex on Wednesday to Bennetts. So I had to help Uncle to milk 7 cows milking no bother with [tubs?] nor anything else, They never get anything except their fodder or cornstalks. Uncle just started to plough yesterday he hasn’t got a man yet so it keeps him nearly all his time doing chores. Well we had two visitors came last night for Easter Mrs Paddon and Miss Gertie Paddon the one that wrote the letter to Jim. [Page 4] She is sorry that it is raining as she can’t get running about Glen and Leslie is comming [coming?] to night [tonight?]. So we are going down to the train to meet them. Willie John is getting along very well at school I see. I am afraid of trying my exam. in June. I would’nt like to try it and fail. So I don’t know yet about it. I suppose -Mrs. & Mr. Houston - [Huston?] will spend Easter up there I suppose it will take me to hurry up to be there to celebrate the christening when things are improving so quickly I must send her a couple of newspapers soon. I did send her one along time ago I wonder if she ever got it she never said so anyway. [Page 5] This old paper is lasting me a long time, but the longer it lasts the less I’ll have to buy. I suppose James Jack is pleased now was it old Wm [William?] Hay told us about what he said about the last [sic]. Did W. Houston [Huston?] come home that time. I suppose he has got a wife a match for himself Is J. C. [John Charles?] back again in Strabane I hardly know where to write to now. I suppose he has’nt got money enough [saved?] to buy a bycile [bicycle?] I must get at Jim about it. He says if he would like he could save $100 in three months he put some in the bank last month I was going to send some April fools over there but it was too late before I [Page 6] thought on it. I would liked to have sent one to Andy Mc and Wm [William?] Noble. How is Wm. [William?] Duncan these folks thought you would have mentioned it in the letter Well I don’t know any more news to tell you only that I am to be asked to a wedding on 7th May. Minnie Bennett Fred’s sister she is getting a fellow the name of Yarrow, I don’t like to see her getting married as I think she would be time enough she is only a little over 19. I am going up there some Saturday before that. Well I think this is all this time, hoping You are all Well I had a sore throat this last two days and I thought I was taking the mumps but I think not. Old and Young have them here. Uncle was making fun of me about the face I would have if I got them Good Bye M Smyth [Goodbye Mary Smyth?] [Written upside down on Page 1] I wish you would buy a stick of sealing wax I don’t want to be getting second handed letters Transcribed by Elizabeth Prentice |
