I had an awful bad cold for two weeks. So Saturday week I went down to Woodslee to see Annie before she went to St. Thomas so they advised me to not come back till I would get it cured. I coughed a lot, So I went to the Doctor & got some medicine I am alright now. Belle was sick a few days last week, but is also better again, Annie and Charlie left for St. Thomas on Monday last. also the boys, Annie was sorry to have to leave Leamington but it could not be helped. I am still busy working and I have got more to do now as being out of school last week I got behind so I have to study hard to catch up. I had a game of tennis to-day after supper 6 o'clock One of the teachers & two other girls & I had a game [Page 2] The [They?] have just made a new tennis court in the school yard so few are all trying to learn and of course I want too [to?] also. If I would think that it would reduce my weight I would keep at it as they say violent exercise of any kind will So I think it will be a benefit to me if it does. We play with those racquets like what Jim had with him and two balls. It is beautiful weather here now just hot enough. I am studying with my window half way up & [sic] just feels warm enough. I hope it doesn't get any hotter. I see you have nice weather there too. I was just thinking one day who would drop the potatoes now, but I see you have still to go out, I see you have got quite a number of lambs. I would like to know how many cows calves horses pigs & etc you have on each farm and how many on all. One day last week I was saying to Belle that you could keep as many cattle on 40 acres as they have on 150 & she said she never saw anything but the cows so I said that I saw 20 there altogether [3] They have seven cows milking and I dont know how many calves or heifers and 5 horses but of course he don’t work all the land himself he lets some of it, They think that one man should work all the land we have but it is not the same as here, I milked two cows once or twice while Bell [Belle?] was sick she always helps to milk. They got a seperator [separator?] last week for seperating [separating?] the cream from the milk. Just as soon as they milk it before it gets cold it is put through this seperator [separator?] and the cream comes out of one place & the milk another. It saves a lot of skimming. They only churn the cream the milk is given to the calves before it gets cold The seperator [separator?] cost $80 = £16 and it is only a small affair turns it like one of those things to sharp [sharpen?] tools I think that song was pretty well composed do they still go with the [Gortin?] girls I should think they wouldn’t if they had a help in making the song on them - I suppose Bob will not have so much time to run around now. It will be [Page 4] a good thing for him. I suppose Lizzie Mac thought the exam was hard I would like to see the papers I would send them back to her if she would let me see them. Does she still go to school. What is Tillie doing do you know? I wonder [that?] Miss Maguire ever got married I suppose there will be many changes around the Plum [Plumbridge?] when I go back. She and Miss Murphy used to have a nice time there alone, and dressed in the best. I suppose Bella is glad to have a girl. Does she have to milk and feed calves and pigs? How is the Plum? [Plumbridge?] Do you ever see Bob Dunne now at all? How does the Campbells get along with so many changes in their house. Also the Campbells below the [moat?] are they still all there, Is W Y still in Donemana? No signs of Tilda getting married. This is an abrupt paragraph but I put everything down as I think of it. None of the Gordon girls are married yet nor John. Good Bye write soon MS. [Mary Smyth?] [Written upside down at the top of page 4] Cass's Baby's name is Charles Alford I wrote a letter to Bella about two weeks ago I thought that would do for all. I would have written sooner only being in Woodslee last week I had no paper with me Transcribed by Mohamed Souissy |
