Smyth, Essex, Ontario. _______ Stamped [ST THOMAS?] [torn] 16 [FE-?] [FEB?] [torn] 04 [torn] [ONTARIO?] [torn] Back of envelope Postmarked ESSEX FB29 [04?] ONT St. Thomas Bay Feb, 17th 04. Dear Brother:- Received your letter a few days ago, I also got a letter from home this week the principal news is that Mary Dunbar was married three weeks ago last Thursday to a Mr Hughes in Pomroy [Pomeroy?], His sister was a teacher so I suppose that is how they got acquainted I was for sending her my picture but she gave up teaching at Xmas so I m glad I didn't send it I don't now what I m going to do in the future I kind of give up the notion of B [Business?] College for it would be so long before I would get done when I would get through then wait till I would earn my own money, I don t know what is best to do. I would like to get making money for myself or be in a position to do so at any time as I dont want to depend on other people all the time [could?] [keep?] you back from from (sic) doing what you want. I did not think that your Certificate lasted any longer than next Xmas. I think it would be better for you to get your first class if you intend staying. here, They had a [soiree?] at home last Tuesday night proceeds in aid of the band. Well, as so Miss [Risdon?] I have no doubt but she is as well up socially as any of the Essex people but she does not go to the dancing parties here as She is a Methodist Just like Essex each one has their own crowd, I am going to her home for tea some night I am also going out for tea tomorrow night to Miss [Lossegthes?] Where is Ruby Allison [boarding?] now: I wonder if she is going on another year to school or what. If I don't go to Business College I don't know what I shall do next year I would like to take up the Civil Service and then I could be at home I have got so many [notions?] that I don't know which to follow. I must close for tonight M [Mary?] Smyth _____ Transcribed by Gordon Drummond |
