[received] your letter yesterday or rather the day before. Well when I read I decided all at once to go but when I came home for my dinner and told [them?] and Jim about it why I did not know what to do. Jim said for me to do as I pleased [but?] that it would be better for me to not go to next summer. He think (sic) I am not Canadianized enough to go back yet and I don't think so either. He says I can stay till June and by that time I will have Junior Matriculation Certificate. So the Principal of High School told me if I pass the exam in June, that I would have that and he thinks that I should be able to go to Dublin without passing another exam. I have decided to not go now anyway. I suppose you will be expecting me, but be sure and don't have that Soiree to next Winter for I don't want to miss it [lend?] the band the money for whatever they want till then. I [would?] not [been?] very anxious to go alone in the winter time anyway. When I thought of it all why I thought it would be better for all to wait and I want to take some little things back with me So I would not have time to do it. Well we had that basket ball game last Friday and before it [Lyceum?] from 3 to 4 basket ball from 4 to 5-30. We had a very good programme for the Lyceum. I sang in the chorus. There were a lot there all out of town. The basket ball game was very interesting .The players were dressed for the occasion, Essex High School girls [won?] 6 to nothing in favour of Essex. The Leamington team was very good but one of the girls were sick and [were?] not able to play very well. We have got four teachers now one of our good ones left. Friday the School [presented?] [with?] a present on [his?] departure in memory of all, The one that we have in his place is not as well liked as he was. However we will have to be content with such things as we have I don't know whether I will stay here after Xmas or not according to finances I suppose Jim will get an extension on [his?] [certificate?] if he likes but he thinks he would rather [get?] at something els [else?] He is in an unsettled position at present; but he can get at any amount of work if he would like. Don't say that I told you anything about his circumstances. Liza sent a half [sheet?] last letter and I gave it to him to read so he thought that I had [torn?] off a page and expected that there was something about him in it, I am in a hurry to get this posted tonight so excuse all mistakes. I would like to get all the subjects that they have to try for that Dublin exam. If I go home in the summer I will have to April to get up All subjects that I have not taken here We had an examination on Latin Last Friday and I got 73% that was not bad We will have another on French week after next. Don't let anyone know that I am going home in the summer. for [something?] might [turn up?] in the meantime. GoodBye MSmyth (The following are notes written at the top of several pages.) 1 I see you have got the farm. It would have been better if you had got one up by Omagh. It would be a good idea for Jim to go over and farm now. 2 He did not like what Master James said about Him. Write soon & give me all news but he wants to [boss?] everything 3 If you have got a few shillings to spare send them to me. Willie Duncan is coming out in the Spring. 4 I suppose you will be expecting me by the time this letter reaches you but you will be mistaken I would go only I [don't?] [want?] to go back the same as I came out.
