Transcript | 1707 Esplanade Ave., Dec 18th 1908. My dear Doc I see by the date that it is just a month since our arrival & nothing is yet done & nothing decided. Albert Sr. [Senior?] told me yesterday that he was watching the business & he was to have an interview with the notary of the Bank, Vincent, The one originally consulted about the lands when I wrote to Albert about them some years ago. I do not know what will be done. Young Albert has changed his tune about Morgan Gurley since Beckwith told him he knew him to be a rogue & that he had come near ruining his brother Ward. Beckwith says that what he can do in the way of advice he will do, but anything that requires physical work, such as looking up titles & examining papers he cannot do. I suppose Albert will advise taking some lawyer. Beckwith had promised to make a written statement of his interview with Morgan Gurley. The rogue would not say anything without Richardson being present. Beckwith asked Morgan Gurley if he considered his power of attorney irrevocable, he said " no " but that the contract he had made with Richardson, granting him 50% was binding. Beckwith called it a cut throat contract. He does not know whether it can be broken or not. Nobody seems to know anything. Everything hangs fire & I fear it is urgent to act. It is a pity you did not let me have the power of attorney, for now we shall have to wait until the deed is sent to you signed & returned. There seems to be something stirring. I hope it will not be detrimental. [Onnato?] the real estate man told Arthie & me that properly handled the lands were of great value. The Baldwins, especially Albert Sr [senior?] seems to take much interest, dont notice what I said about Albert Jr [junior?] but if they come to you do what they say. The money must be returned to the McCain v Conery [Connery?] heirs[?] first of all. I dont think anyone will lend it, though it seems pretty good security. I think probably they will offer shares in this Leader Real Estate Co - the thing they turned your claim into, the bondsmen. But this is my speaking of nothing is yet decided upon. As soon as it is I will write. I dont like to fuss Albert for he said he was watching. Arthie is having a grand time. Albert Sr [senior?] has given her $250, Albert Jr [junior?] $100 & Arthemise some $300 in dresses. It seems such a waste of money when it is all needed for important things. I know you cannot dictate - They spend their money as they please. I have had a cold since my arrival. The heat is unbearable & though everyone is so kind I have out grown the life & it means fatigue & weariness. God grant everything may come straight. I hope you will have a happy Xmas & keep well. If you are told to act dont put off things & dont talk too much about your affairs. Yours Nato |
